Stephenson had to clear waivers, before the 49ers could make such a move. His injury though, was much more serious. Reports are that Stephenson had a large benign tumor in his back removed. He is the second 49er this off-season to have a benign tumor removed, as Tony Parrish had one removed earlier this off-season.
Stephenson is supposedly re-covering well, but is not expected to play football again this year. 49ers Paradise obviously wishes him the best in his recovery.
