Josh Shaw Making Strides
May 20 2002
By Bryan Hersh of 49ers Paradise
49ers Paradise has learned that rookie Josh Shaw is making significant progress in returning from a devastating injury he suffered in college to his knee. Shaw was playing at an extremely high level before he went down; improving in each game he was playing in, Shaw was ready to tear up the league. The injury to Shaw knocked him out of first day contention in the NFL Draft, and before his rehabilitations began he was worried he may not be drafted at all.

Shaw has begun running recently, mostly straight forward movements with little change in direction. He’s taking it slow building muscles around the injury so that he can once again perform at a high level. The young talent is working extremely hard to make it all the way back from injury.

Shaw is really hoping to learn from veterans Bryant Young and Dana Stubblefield as he grows into a more important player for the 49ers. Both he and the team are hoping he will be able to contribute near the beginning of the season.

As with all knee injuries Shaw will slowly progress from straight forward movements to cutting, running pylons, high stepping, and some aqua training in order to regain health to his knee. The final test before contact drills will be to run with lateral motion in deeps sand. All the while of course, Shaw will be weight training his specifically for his knee in order to stimulate muscle growth to the area.

Talk about it in the 49ers Paradise Forum
