To beat the Redskins and to be a contending team in the NFL this season, the 49ers have to run the ball. It’s a fundamental of football - if you don’t run, you don’t win, and when the 49ers run all they do is win. Last season when the 49ers ran the ball thirty or more times, the team was an astonishing 8-0. They didn’t lose one game! Whether they were running to victory or running to hold onto a victory, the fact of the matter is they were running, and it played a big part in their success. The 49ers have not even come close to rushing the ball thirty times this season. And they can’t afford not to. Their offense is clearly in need of a boost and two of their best offensive weapons are indeed running backs.
The 49ers feel that both Garrison Hearst and Kevan Barlow are 1000 yard runners in the NFL. Both bring a great amount of explosion to the offense. The team needs to get off its high horse, and pound the ball to victory. It will losen up the defense and allow the team to use the rest of the playbook.
