Rumph Pleads, Warrant Rescinded August 6 2002 By Bryan Hersh of 49ers Paradise THIS CONTENT IS COPYWRITED, REDISTRIBUTION OF IT (including copy/pasting it to a message board, forum or bbs) IS PROHIBITED AND COULD RESULT IN LEGAL ACTIONS - feel free to quote up to 1 paragraph providing a source link to http://www.49ersparadise.cjb.net is included 49ers first round draft pick, cornerback Mike Rumph pleaded innocent to a DUI charge that he was arrested for earlier this off-season. Rumph, had a court date scheduled during the 49ers trip to Osaka. His attorney had requested a change of date, but due the paper work got held up. As neither Rumph nor his attorney was at the hearing, a warrant for Rumph’s arrest was released. When all was said and done, the motion for a change of date was found, and the warrant for Rumph’s arrest was rescinded. Known for his mature character, the news of a possible second arrest was even more shocking than the first. Rumph however, remained true to his word showing that he has cleaned up his act as he said he would, this just happened to be an unfortunate mix-up that lead to some bad publicity.
Meanwhile, on Monday Rumph did have his hearing, at which he pleaded not guilty to the DUI charge. Had he plead guilty, Rumph likely could have made off with a reduced penalty because of a history free of run ins with the law. However, Rumph, who was .011 over the legal .08 limit of blood alcohol in Florida has chosen instead to plead not guilty, and will try to get completely ‘off the hook’.
