It’s been said that Steve Mariucci doesn’t know how to win the big games. It’s been said that when on the road, the 49ers can’t match up against good teams. On Sunday doubters were proved wrong. The Raiders were 4-3 when the 49ers faced them in Oakland. That of course made them a winning team and a perhaps more importantly they are regarded as a good team. The game was also on the road - despite being just across the bay. Not only did the 49ers win, but they did so in coming from behind. This was the type of game that builds character on a team. With 30 consecutive offensive plays in the fourth quarter and over time, during which the 49ers dominated the Raiders, it gives this team something to bank on in future games. A reference to turn to when the game is on the line and the team needs to step up. Character can go a long ways in the NFL today.
The 49ers are in the midst of a tough stretch on their schedule, and having something to bank on, and learn from will certainly help them in the tight games that are around the corner. The team is young, and most members have not been through such games in the past, now they have - and they will be a better team because of it.
