As the 49ers get ready to open their home opener, I figured it would be interesting to take a look at some facts about the 49ers home openers since 1950.

Since 1950, the 49ers are 14-10-1 in opening games, at home in the first week of the season. Since 1990, the 49ers have outscored their opponents in the season opener 266-238/ These statistics of course doesn’t apply this week, but is interesting none the less.

The 49ers have never opened a home game against the Denver Broncos, however, sicne 1950 they have opened at home against an AFC opponent 14 times.

In 2000 and 2001 the 49ers home openers went into over time. Both times, the 49ers won. In 2001, Jose Cortez kicked a game winning field goal and in 2000 Garrison Hearst ran 96-yards for the game winning touchdown.

The 49ers are an amazing 129-66-1 when they win their home opener.

Talk about it in the 49ers Paradise Forum
