Mooch and Owens Finally Talk April 17 2002 By Bryan Hersh of 49ers Paradise The controversy between 49ers wide receiver Terrell Owens and Steve Mariucci may finally have come to an end. The controversy for those of you who have been living under a rock, was that Owens wanted a more explosive offense that featured more of him. Mariucci quickly got tired of Owens tirades and lashed back at him. It was a media members dream. Player vs Coach, the ultimate story. The two sides however may now finally understand each other. Mooch and Owens sat down to talk last week. Although exact information on what was discussed was not disclosed, it is believed that the conversation did end with Mariucci and Owens on the same page. "We talked about a lot of things about the past and a lot of things about the future," said Mariucci. He continued stating "We had a chance to sit down and talk about everything we wanted to talk about." Mariucci felt it was a good step in mending the player/coach relationship. ``It put things in a good perspective for everybody," he said.
General Manager Terry Donahue suggested that the two sides but aside their differences after the loss to Green Bay. He insisted that Mariucci and and Owens talk it though, and felt confident they would resolve their issues. It seems that for the most part, Donahue was right and things may finally be returning to status quo in the 49ers locker room. It's been a long time coming, considering the sides have not seen eye to eye since the Dallas game where Owens celebration on the Cowboy Star resulted in a team suspension. I'm thrilled these two have finally put their differences aside for the benefit of the team. It can only result in good, and maybe the new found harmony will even keep both Mooch and Owens with the 49ers beyond their current contracts.
