49ers To Receive Break On Monday Night November 19 2002 By Bryan Hersh of 49ers Paradise THIS CONTENT IS COPYWRITED, REDISTRIBUTION OF IT (including copy/pasting it to a message board, forum or bbs) IS PROHIBITED AND COULD RESULT IN LEGAL ACTIONS - feel free to quote up to 1 paragraph providing a source link to http://www.49ersparadise.cjb.net is included The 49ers will play the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football this week, and to the Eagles dismay they should be without quarterback Donovan McNaab, who is undoubtedly the most important player on that team. McNaab broke his ankle on Sunday, but somehow took the pain and played to a victory. After the ankle was x-rayed the fracture was made evident, and the training staff stated that McNaab will need weeks to heal. McNaab however still professes that he will play. Perhaps the pain killers got to his head, or perhaps he really is that tuff, either way the injury will benefit the 49ers. It’s never good to see a player get injured, but when that player is the star player and quarterback for the weeks opposing team, it is a silver lining. The thought of Coy Detmer starting in place of McNaab is certainly humbling.
If Coy Detmer is starting the 49ers must be careful. They must be careful not to take the Monday night affair to lightly. They are coming off a disheartening loss and have fallen off track. This would be a good game to get things going again, but if they aren’t careful, it could be Detmer that comes back to bite them in the Achilles heel.
