Mini-Camp Quickies June 6 2002 By Bryan Hersh of 49ers Paradise Mini-Camp Quickies As with most 49ers news, there’s usually a bunch of minor news that surfaces that’s still worth mentioning. This is a compilation of said news: Quarterback Giovanni Carmazzi looks to be the odd man out at quarterback. The former third round draft choice has yet to see any playing time with the 49ers. The 49ers have stated that they are looking to eliminate one quarterback from competition prior to training camp. The team is now in contact with Carmazzi’s agent, his doctors and the NFL, to figure out the best thing to do for him. The team could place him back on the physically unable to perform list, and keep him on the roster. Alternatively, they may decide to head in another direction completely and try and hammer out an injury settlement. Finally, on the off chance that Carmazzi’s Doctors let him get active with the team again, and health does not appear to be a concern, the 49ers may (and this is a very slim possibility) keep him completely active for training camp. Guard Ron Stone has witched his number from 60 to the 65 vacated by Ray Brown. Stone has always worn the number 65. Receiver Tai Streets pulled up in the middle of a route with a tweaked hamstring, he is expected to give practice a “go”, but wills it out if the injury remains irritated. The 49ers will give receiver Jimmy Williams a chance to try and return kicks this pre-season. Defensive tackle Troy Wilson who the 49ers have signed twice now, the most current being at the end of last season, has signed with the Arena Leagues, Tampa Bay Storm. Jamie Winborn has been back in practice. He looks fluid with the team, and expects to be a big part of the 49ers roster this season.
Those are the 49ers news quickies… hope you enjoyed them.
