Injury Report October 16 2002 By Bryan Hersh of 49ers Paradise THIS CONTENT IS COPYWRITED, REDISTRIBUTION OF IT (including copy/pasting it to a message board, forum or bbs) IS PROHIBITED AND COULD RESULT IN LEGAL ACTIONS - feel free to quote up to 1 paragraph providing a source link to http://www.49ersparadise.cjb.net is included The 49ers injury report is growing at a seemingly exponential rate. While Ronnie Heard was able to play this week, he was visibly hurting. The 49ers will hope that he is healthy enough to go as safety because Zack Bronson broke his foot, and will be out 6-8 weeks. The team may also activate John Keith from the practice squad who has been rehabilitating an injury for quite some time now. Jamie Winborn will likely start light practice. He’s likely still doubtful for this week, but should be pretty close to returning for the following week. The 49ers really need him back in their starting linebacking core. Josh Shaw is eligible to be activated from the physically unable to perform list this week. Shaw however will likely remain inactive as the 49ers will likely give him all season to rehabilitate his injury. Initial reports on Terry Jackson was that he tore his MCL. The team may activate Jamal Robertson if a MRI on Jackson’s knee supports the initial prognosis. Jackson’s MCL could have him miss the rest of the season. Paul Smith, the team’s current backup full back is expected to take a few more weeks to recover too.
John Engleberger also injured his leg this past Monday. Engelberger will likely be a game time decision for next week, he may miss up to three weeks though. Sean Moran should see more play time as a result.
