JJ Stokes Pay Cut April 23 2002 By Bryan Hersh of 49ers Paradise On Saturday the 49ers announced that JJ Stokes had agreed to a restructured two year contract. At the time, the team withheld the salary information of the contract. Recently, however it was discovered that Stokes agreed to a salary reduction of $2 million dollars this season. The pay cut means that Stokes would have a base salary of $1.75 million this season as opposed to $3.75 million. Stokes however will still have a contract figure of about $3 million once the signing bonus is included. The new deal will give the 49ers the flexibility they need to lock up their draft picks quickly - and may even leave the team enough money to either carry a full roster this year, or possibly even land another free agent like Willie Jackson or Blake Brockermeyer.
Although many debate whether Stokes should be a part of the 49ers, his willingness to cooperate with the team on this and other matters shows he is dedicated to the team. It is certainly a step in the right direction.
