Introducing Quarterback Brandon Doman:
The Particulars:
College: BYU
Height: ~6'2"
Weight: ~210 lbs
40 Time: ~4.81 seconds
Vertical Jump: ~32.5 inches
Squat Lift: ~NA
Hometown: ~ Salt Lake City, Utah
College Highlights:
Brandon Doman had a great final season at BYU. Doman only has 15 career starts under his belt, but did hit 52 of 96 passes for 812 yards prior to his final season. He finished his career with 4354 yards, 35 touchdowns, and only 14 interceptions. He had a 62.1 completion percentage.
Doman has show he's an accurate quarterback that makes smart decisions. He goes through his progressions well, and is mobile enough to scramble or buy time for his receivers. He can improvise and is a natural leader.
Role With 49ers:
Doman will come to the 49ers and compete for the third quarterback roster spot (although the team has not ruled out carrying four Qbs again this season). Doman's main competition will be from former third round pick Giovanni Carmazzi and former CFL player, Aaron Garcia.
The team has high hopes for Doman, but Brandon will have along way to go to make it onto the 49ers roster.
Quotes To Note:
"He fits nicely in our type of system, he's mobile, throws well on the run, makes good decisions and is very accurate with the ball. is offensive coordinator for his senior season at BYU, Gary Crowton, also coached Tim Rattay at Louisiana Tech. Doman is a very mature guy who won 12 games last year."
-Offensive Coordinator Greg Knapp
"Some people have said his arm just isn't strong enough, but that's not the case, said Young. He was hurt for four or five games last year and still played. And he put up big numbers. I think he has a great arm."
-Former 49ers' QB Steve Young
"Obviously they've got a quarterback there that is awesome. I am a big Jeff Garcia fan and I want to learn from him and watch him, I want to learn as much as I can from coach Mariucci, coach Knapp and coach Tolllner. At the combine, as I was interviewing with each organization, there was no doubt about it that the 49ers had the best organization. I was definitely hoping to get a shot to go out there. I will go out there and support and play as hard as I can every practice, every play and hopefully be a backup style quarterback for the next little while here and hopefully down the road get a chance to be a starter"
-Brandon Doman
Injury History:
Doman had an injury to his throwing arm last season. It may be the reason some scouting reports on him state his down field accuracy is not great, and that at times he lacks zip on the ball.
Additional Notes:
Doman is friends with former 49ers QB, and BYU alumni, Steve Young. It is believed Young likely put a good word in for Doman with the organization.
