From The Gun October 29 2002 By Bryan Hersh of 49ers Paradise THIS CONTENT IS COPYWRITED, REDISTRIBUTION OF IT (including copy/pasting it to a message board, forum or bbs) IS PROHIBITED AND COULD RESULT IN LEGAL ACTIONS - feel free to quote up to 1 paragraph providing a source link to http://www.49ersparadise.cjb.net is included Jeff Garcia has been tremendously successful running from the shotgun. Garcia seems to have a better view of the field from this formation, and thus, is a more efficient passer when he is not directly under center. By being in the shotgun position, Garcia can roll out more easily, thus evading the pass rush or buying time for his receivers down field. Against the Cardinals, the 49ers first two touchdowns came with Jeff Garcia in the shotgun formation. Both touchdown passes were incredibly well thrown, and were down the field - something 49ers fans have been looking for, for quite some time.
After the game, Garcia felt that the 9ers offense could have done more. He was right, with the way it faltered in the second and third quarters. Garcia wants to run more plays from the shotgun, and in all likelihood the 49ers will. Steve Mariucci and Gregg Knapp will likely be more than happy to oblige if it will make the offense more productive.
