Engelberger Out For MNF August 19 2002 By Bryan Hersh of 49ers Paradise THIS CONTENT IS COPYWRITED, REDISTRIBUTION OF IT (including copy/pasting it to a message board, forum or bbs) IS PROHIBITED AND COULD RESULT IN LEGAL ACTIONS - feel free to quote up to 1 paragraph providing a source link to http://www.49ersparadise.cjb.net is included The 49ers will once again not be able to begin a pre-season game with their entire starting defense. The team will be one man short, with John Engelberger not making the trip to Denver. After a light practice Saturday Engelberger reported some abdominal pain. That night he was rushed to a hospital for emergency surgery. Defensive end, John Engelberger underwent a very common procedure to have his appendix removed. The surgery is very common in today’s society, and the recovery time can vary greatly from patient to patient. With Engelberger our for Monday night’s game against the Broncos the team will likely turn to Chike Okeafor to make the start. Okeafor will certainly try and take advantage of the opportunity. He has pushed Engelberger for the starting position all off-season, and he certainly won’t less this opportunity pass without trying to grab the coaching staff’s attention.
Meanwhile Sean Moran should also see an increased amount of play time at the defensive end position. The opportunity will finally give Moran the opportunity to play against great opposition. He too will be looking to impress the coaching staff.
