Defense Has Hands Full November 7 2002 By Bryan Hersh of 49ers Paradise THIS CONTENT IS COPYWRITED, REDISTRIBUTION OF IT (including copy/pasting it to a message board, forum or bbs) IS PROHIBITED AND COULD RESULT IN LEGAL ACTIONS - feel free to quote up to 1 paragraph providing a source link to http://www.49ersparadise.cjb.net is included The 49ers defense will have its hands full this week against one of the best offenses in the league. The Chiefs, who are presently 4-4 may not own one of the best records in the NFL, certainly no how to move the ball and score points. The Chiefs offense is currently ranked third overall in the NFL. The team is lead by Priest Holmes who has recorded an astonishing 15 touchdowns halfway through the season. Holmes is the leading rusher and receiver for the Chiefs, so the key for the 49ers, is to slow him. Tony Gonzalez is having himself a nice season too, with more touchdowns than any other tight end so far this season, Gonzalez will be the man the Chiefs go to in order to loosen up the defense of Holmes. The 49ers should use a cornerback to cover Gonzalez otherwise he may exploit the 49ers linebackers for some big gains.
The 49ers started last season off at 7-2 and with a win this week, can improve to that record for the second straight season. At 6-2 the 49ers are off to a good start, but Mariucci and his team are not content even after the big win in Oakland. They want more.
