Chiefs Defense Struggling November 7 2002 By Bryan Hersh of 49ers Paradise THIS CONTENT IS COPYWRITED, REDISTRIBUTION OF IT (including copy/pasting it to a message board, forum or bbs) IS PROHIBITED AND COULD RESULT IN LEGAL ACTIONS - feel free to quote up to 1 paragraph providing a source link to http://www.49ersparadise.cjb.net is included While the 49ers may have the leagues worst third down defense, at least they aren’t the Kansas City Chiefs, who own the 32nd ranked defense in the NFL. The struggles the Chiefs are going threw on defense could allow Jeff Garcia and Terrell Owens to have a huge day and build upon some impressive offensive performances they’ve already had this season. The Chiefs defense is giving up an average of 323.6 pass yards per game, and have permitted 18 passing touchdowns through eight games this season. While running will be important to keep the Chiefs off balance, success will likely come from throwing against them - not running. Defense was certainly a hot topic for the Chiefs who are coming off a bye week, and their best performance of the season against the Raiders two weeks ago. Still it’s hard to believe that a team can address issues this large in one short week, and that should allow 49ers quarterback Jeff Garcia to light it up. Garcia has six touchdown passes in the past two games, and is looking to get on pace for another 30 touchdown season. To do that he’ll need to throw for 18 touchdowns in the remaining 8 games, which is slightly more than two touchdowns per game, while still sustaining his low number of interceptions.
This could be a very high scoring game with a potent Chiefs offense to, and should certainly be one of the more entertaining games of the season.
