Carter On A roll November 2 2002 By Bryan Hersh of 49ers Paradise THIS CONTENT IS COPYWRITED, REDISTRIBUTION OF IT (including copy/pasting it to a message board, forum or bbs) IS PROHIBITED AND COULD RESULT IN LEGAL ACTIONS - feel free to quote up to 1 paragraph providing a source link to http://www.49ersparadise.cjb.net is included 49ers second year defensive end Andre Carter has been on a role since December of last year. The former first round draft pick has recorded 10.5 sacks over this time, tying him with Michael Strahan - last years defensive player of the year, and NFL leader for sacks in a season, in fourth place behind Simeon Rice, Rosevelt Colvin, Peter Boulware and Leanrd Little. In seven games this season, Carter has recorded 6 sacks, just one half short of his total from his rookie season. Carter is leading the 49ers in the sack department as he did last year, and also leads the team with 13 QB pressures and 13 hits on the quarterback. The 49ers have recorded 18 quarterback sacks this season. That means that Andre Carter has accounted for one third of the teams sacks this season. Carter is on pace for double digit sacks, something the 49ers haven’t seen from a defensive end on their roster since the days of Chris Doleman and Roy Barker.
The 49ers will need a big game from Andre Carter this weekend to help control a potent Raiders’ aerial assault. Constant pressure on quarterback Rich Gannon may be the 49ers best chance of stopping future hall of fame receivers Jerry Rice and Tim Brown.
