Bronson / Ulbrich Both Active September 22 2002 By Bryan Hersh of 49ers Paradise THIS CONTENT IS COPYWRITED, REDISTRIBUTION OF IT (including copy/pasting it to a message board, forum or bbs) IS PROHIBITED AND COULD RESULT IN LEGAL ACTIONS - feel free to quote up to 1 paragraph providing a source link to http://www.49ersparadise.cjb.net is included Much to the 49ers relief, they will have to key players active for today’s game at home against the Redskins. Both safety Zack Bronson and linebacker Jeff Ulbrich are expected to play in the 49ers third game of the season. At the beginning of the week, neither player was expected to participate. That the 49ers can start Zack Bronson at free safety will allow them to keep Jason Moore, who was signed this past week as an inactive member of their roster. It also will allow them to match up much better against an aggressive passing offense. Bronson tied for the team lead last year with seven interceptions. Jeff Ulbrich is not far enough back from his injury to start for the team - though in his absence Jamie Winborn may have stolen the spot away from him anyway. Ulbrich however should be a key figure in different defensive packages and in the rotation. If the 49ers keep Winborn as a starting linebacker, Ulbrich may unseat Derek Smith during the bye week for a starting position.
The 49ers were not anticipating having either of these two players ready for this game. Thus the team is quite happy to have both of them ready to play. The team will have a nice chance to get healthy after this game, with the bye week to follow.
