49ers Finally Get Barometric Measure October 24 2002 By Bryan Hersh of 49ers Paradise THIS CONTENT IS COPYWRITED, REDISTRIBUTION OF IT (including copy/pasting it to a message board, forum or bbs) IS PROHIBITED AND COULD RESULT IN LEGAL ACTIONS - feel free to quote up to 1 paragraph providing a source link to http://www.49ersparadise.cjb.net is included In playing the Saints last weekend the 49ers finally got a chance to see where they stood in regards to the NFL. Facing the now 6-1 Saints the 49ers were matched up against one of the best teams in the NFL. The team played just good enough to lose - but was as, Saints coach Jim Hasslet pointed out, the toughest team the Saints have played this season. What the 49ers should have learned from this game is that while they are a good team - they are not at elite level of the NFL yet. The team should have learned that it can’t beat good teams by playing only three quarters of football. The team should have learned that it can’t depend on the offense scoring on every drive of a football game in order to win.
But had the 49ers won this game, the questions as to how good a team this was would still be unanswered. People would still wonder just how good this team is. Now we know. The 49ers are a good team, but they aren’t as good as the Saints - not yet at least, and now the 49ers also know which areas they need to improve in, in order to beat good teams.
