Rookie Tight End Mark Anelli Near Agreement July 21 2002 By Bryan Hersh of 49ers Paradise THIS CONTENT IS COPYWRITED, REDISTRIBUTION OF IT (including copy/pasting it to a message board, forum or bbs) IS PROHIBITED AND COULD RESULT IN LEGAL ACTIONS - feel free to quote up to 1 paragraph providing a source link to http://www.49ersparadise.cjb.net is included 49ers 2002 draftee, tight end, Mark Anelli appears to be very close to a contract agreement with the 49ers. Anelli is expected to sign before the beginning of training camp. His deal will include the minimum for what is believed to be three years, and a bonus of approximately $50 000. The 49ers are hoping that Anelli can provide them with a nice change of pace tight end to the pass catching Eric Johnson. Anelli is known for his blocking but has under-rated receiving skills. He knows how to find soft zones in the defense and provides quarterbacks with a big ‘bail-out’ target.
Anelly will compete primarily with Justin Swift this training camp, but may feel some heat from Ben Steele who spent the off-season in NFL Europe. The 49ers will likely keep twp tight ends as depth to Eric Johnson though, meaning Steele will likely be the odd man out. Additionally long snapper Brian Jennings official roster spot is at tight end.
