| Some Absentees May 23 2002 By Bryan Hersh of 49ers Paradise As the 49ers began their rookie and selected veteran mini-camp on Wednesday, there a few rookies who were still in school. Eric Heitmann and Austin Lee were not in attendance because their classes are still on going. Under NFL rule, players can join their team anytime after May 16th as long as they have completed all of their classes. Unfortunately, both Heitmann and Lee will have to undergo further requirements before they can report to the team.
The two are both working to make arrangements to finish class early so that they can report to the team. The 49ers have had little issue excusing them from the team, but are looking forward to having them in camp, ready to compete for roster positions.
