The 49ers wanted one guy all along, and Bill Walsh made sure they got him. Andre Carter was expected to be picked by the Bears at number eight, the 49ers scheduled to select one pick later jumped the gun. The Seahwaks were happy to make the trade, and the 49ers got their guy.

As soon as the move was made it was obvious what the 49ers move would be. The 49ers sent their second third round pick, number 82 aquired from the Packers yesterday and swapped their first round picks. The 49ers also sent a seventh rounder aquired from the Packers number 222 overall and got a sixth round pick (No. 191).

At defensive end, Carter is extremely explosive. He has an incredible vertical that show great lower body strength. A pure pass rusher, Carter will aid the 49ers defense greatly. He is expected to start immediately opposite of John Engelberger. Carter will also bring Bryant Young some help along the line. Walsh stated that "[Carter] was the man all along...He's lightyears ahead of many defensive lineman in the NFL today."
